FAQ

The Royal Palace was severely damaged during World War II and was later rebuilt as a museum. For this reason you cannot find royal enteriors anymore between the walls of the Buda Castle. There are three cultural institutions operating in the Castle at the moment: the Hungarian National Gallery, the Budapest History Museum and the National Széchényi Library.

Entering the castle district by car or taxi is only possible in exceptional cases, through the Secretariat of the Deputy General Director (info@mng.hu), by registrating with the license plate number, specifying the purpose and expected time of arrival. Permission to enter the Hunyadi Courtyard for our entrance “A” and “B” (where waiting is permitted for a limited time) can be required from Várkapitányság Nonprofit Zrt.
Wheelchairs are available for free during your visit at the Gallery. Please ask the assistance of our colleagues.
The exhibitions of the Hungarian National Gallery can be accessed from building B – staff entrance or in building A (in case there is a temporary exhibition there).

The Dome can be visited with a valid ticket for the permanent collection.  The panorama can be viewed during opening hours.

You can find the nearest ATM at the staff entrance of the National Széchényi Library located in building F of Buda Castle.

Unfortunately we do not sell stamps in the Museum Shop, the closest post office can be found within 5 minute walking distance at the Dísz Square.

Visiting the Palatine Crypt is only possible with our tourguide and it is necessary to make prior arrangements via muzeumpedagogia@mng.hu e-mail address. The price of the visit is HUF 3.200/person (the ticket is also valid for the permanent exhibition) plus HUF 16.000 fee of the guided tour.

The Museum of Fine Arts – Hungarian National Gallery ceased to issue authentication and expertise documents on 1 September 2008. In relation to genuineness and value of artworks we recommend you to contact BÁV Auction HouseJudit Virág Gallery, or Kieselbach Gallery.
